Engineered for consumers with limited budget, the Canon Pixma iP2600 is one of Canon’s entry
level printers being offered at a very competitive price of $49.99. Relieving the Pixma iP1800, the Canon Pixma
iP2600 takes its place as an affordable but feature packed, cost-effective printer.
As an entry level model, it does lack some key features found on its more expensive cousins such as the
Pictbridge ports and memory slots. It does however, make up for it by featuring a very streamline and compact
design along with printing speeds that’s capable of competing against more expensive printers in the market. It can
also churn out crisp and bold high quality text prints and produce images that are relatively convenient to alter
and crop through the help of an image editing software bundled with unit known as the Easy Photoprint EX. Judging
by it’s performance, the Canon Pixma iP2600 would prove very much capable for efficiently printing out documents
and decent image printing.
One of the most noticeable aspects of this printer is its design and Canon had obviously exerted a lot of effort
in engineering this printer to be as sleek as possible. Its exterior has a glossy black finish and measures
approximately 5.6 x 17.4 x 10 inches which makes it desk space friendly. The glossy black finish though means that
you may probably have to wipe it a lot due to the fact that it attracts a lot of smudges and finger prints. This
type of finish despite its clean and professional look also makes it attract a lot of dust as they settle in on its
exterior. Putting these aesthetic aspects aside, the Canon Pixma iP2600 does feature a set of
paper and output trays that can be folded and kept inside the unit whenever it’s not in use which makes it look
more like a speaker box. It’s output tray can then be folded down supported by a thin arm which unfortunately
doesn’t feature a cap at it’s end which makes the possibility of a couple of sheets flying off during the printing
process a clear one. However, this gripe is relatively minor and doesn’t exactly make it counter-productive
either.

Another noticeable aspect of this printer’s design is its bare control panel. You would actually find only two
buttons there which includes the power and paper feed button. The power button also functions as an error indicator
which beams an orange light in the event of any errors or failures. One thing that you should know about the Canon
Pixma iP2600 is that you’ll need to purchase a separate USB cord in order to hook this printer up to the computer.
Strange as it may seem, such a cord isn’t included in the package but the practice is becoming increasingly common
among entry level printers. For it’s price, the Canon Pixma iP2600 doesn’t feature any external bridge connections
so the premise of being able to plug in a USB flash drive or memory card unto it should be off your list of
expectations.
With regards to performance, the Canon Pixma iP2600 is a very solid performer in terms of printing speed. Rated
to be capable of turning in approximately 5.68 ppm (pages per minute), it doesn’t fall behind compared to more
expensive printer models on the market.
In terms of quality, the Canon Pixma iP2600 is no push over either. It’s very much capable of printing on
generic office papers with a dense and saturated tone which made the characters look really sharp and crisp with no
apparent blurs. Image and graphical print outs were also very good and was distributed well although there were
sections in which the color came out as slightly neutral which was consistent in every test print we made but they
were hardly noticeable unless you have a keen sense for details.
Lastly, one other great thing about this printer is the fact that it was engineered by Canon. Thus, the
Canon Pixma iP2600 carries a 90 day warranty and technical support which will give you all the
help you need in case you run into any technical issues. You also have the option of seeking a replacement for the
printer in case the issue cannot be solved over the phone along with instructions on how to ship the defective unit
back.
